Do I need to be referred by my GP?
No, you do not normally need to be referred for an appointment. However, if you will be requesting reimbursement from your medical insurance, please discuss with them if you need to be referred via your GP before making an appointment.
Will my private medical insurance company cover treatment at Carshalton Podiatry?
Some insurance companies will reimburse you directly after your treatment – please contact your insurer before your appointment to confirm whether this is possible. We can provide a receipt as proof of treatment. We are, however, unable to take payment directly from medial insurance companies.
What is a gait assessment?
A gait assessment includes a thorough evaluation of your legs and feet when static and when walking. This will include assessing restriction or excessive motion in joint movements, imbalances, joint alignment issues, and foot posture. We also use a pressure plate to assess for balance issues and dynamic pressures through your feet as you walk. This aids in diagnosis of mechanically induced injuries. It also allows an evidence-based approach to orthotic design should orthoses (insoles) be required.
After a gait assessment you will be provided with a full report of the findings of the assessment, including a treatment plan, rehabilitation advice and footwear recommendations.
Can I book an initial assessment and a gait assessment at the same time?
It is generally advised to book an Initial Assessment so that your Podiatrist can assess your foot condition and discuss your requirements; however, if you know that you require a gait assessment and/or would like to purchase orthoses please contact us to arrange.
What are foot orthoses?
Foot orthoses (sometimes called ‘orthotics’ or ‘insoles’) is a medical device fitted inside your shoe that alters foot function. They change movement patterns in the foot and alter the stresses exerted on tissues including ligaments, tendons, joints and bones.
